The institution is located in rural area at a distance of 33 km. east of Varanasi city in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and lies on then NH 2 and Moughal Sarai -Gay rail. Rutes.
Institution was started in October 1957 as civil Engg. School with an intake capacity of 60 students. In July 1963 Diploma courses in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering were in troduced and the  institution was made a Polytechnic with an intake capacity of 120 student 30 in civil, 45 in Electrical and 45 in Mechanical.
The Institute introduce a three Years Diploma courses in Agriculture Engineering with an intake of 30 student in 1973-74 making the total intake 150, subsequently in take capacity varied as per Govt. order from July 1990 three year diploma course in Electronics and 1½ yr. Diploma course in Computer Application later converted in 2 year Post Diploma in computer Application since July 2008 intake increased up to 60 in each branch and total intake become 360.
In yr. 2009-10 self finance Diploma courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics , Agriculture & PGDCA is introduced with anin take of 60 in each.
